Fuel Price Hike Today: Gasoline, Diesel Up as Kerosene Gets Rollback
Gasoline and diesel prices rise today, while kerosene gets a rollback as the DOE keeps setting maximum fuel adjustments.
Motorists get another pump-price hit today as gasoline and diesel go up, while kerosene moves the other way with a fresh rollback. It is the kind of presyo-sa-pump update that directly affects drivers, commuters and small businesses watching daily costs.
According to The Philippine Star, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said the Department of Energy set this week’s maximum increase at P1.21 per liter for gasoline and P2.82 per liter for diesel. Kerosene prices, meanwhile, will be cut by at least P2.21 per liter.
Garin said the DOE has been prescribing fuel adjustments for the past four weeks, meaning the agency sets the ceiling when prices are rising. The move is meant to prevent excessive increases while global and supplier-related costs continue to shift.
The policy is also under review after some oil firms asked government to stop mandated adjustments. Garin said the DOE has started talks with companies and is reviewing documents they submitted, while former energy chief Jericho Petilla warned that smaller oil players could be pressured if mandated adjustments continue.
Fuel remains expensive in Metro Manila and highly urbanized cities, with diesel selling for as high as P97.65 per liter and gasoline ranging from P73.68 to P108.18 per liter. DOE data also showed average fuel inventory at 45.33 days as of May 15, though Garin said supply is not yet alarming and the agency remains vigilant. Source: The Philippine Star
