Malakas ang galaw ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) — opisyal na inutusan ang pag-audit kay Vice President Sara Duterte, husband niyang si Manases Carpio, at siyam na negosyong pag-aari nila matapos matukoy na may probable cause para sa imbestigasyon.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue has officially ordered Letters of Authority to audit Vice President Sara Duterte, her husband Manases Carpio, and nine business enterprises linked to the couple after determining that probable cause exists for a formal tax investigation.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza explained that the LOA is the legal instrument used to initiate formal tax audits, allowing revenue officers to examine books of accounts and accounting records to ensure tax compliance. He emphasized this is not a conclusion of liability but a necessary step in determining correct taxes due.
Among the nine businesses subject to audit are Carpio Lawyers (formerly Carpio & Duterte Lawyers), Zelta Matiem Salon, City Hall King Chow Foods Corporation, Davao Bounty Times Foods Corporation, Madayaw Fisheries Inc., Davao Emerging Taipans Corporation, Amianan Shores Inc., Cale88 Foods Corporation, and Geometry Security and Investigation Agency Inc.
The audit comes amid heightened scrutiny as VP Duterte faces an ongoing impeachment complaint over alleged misuse of public funds. Legal experts note that the Anti-Money Laundering Act was designed to catch criminals in public service, not protect them, and that constitutional accountability supersedes other statutes.
