A 32-year-old fisherman from Wawanway, Subic, Zambales was rescued after going missing for five days in waters near Bajo de Masinloc. The Manila Times said the search and rescue operation happened on March 20, with the Philippine Coast Guard locating both the man and his service boat after an extended search.
The fisherman had been reported missing after his service boat, called Bebelot and operating for FB Gabriel Geruz 6, failed to return on time. That triggered coordination between Coast Guard units and the BRP Cape San Agustin, which helped narrow down where search teams needed to go.
According to the report, rescuers found the missing vessel about 78.98 nautical miles west of Capon Grande, Zambales. That detail shows just how far out the search had to reach, and why the operation was urgent and delicate. Hindi biro ang limang araw na nawawala sa dagat, especially with exposure, dehydration, and rough conditions always in play.
At around 4:07 p.m., the Coast Guard was able to bring the fisherman aboard and give him immediate medical attention. Authorities also secured his boat and loaded it onto the Coast Guard vessel, preventing further loss after the ordeal.
The rescue adds another human story to the difficult realities faced by people earning a living from Philippine waters. For fishing communities in Zambales, every trip can carry serious risk, and this one thankfully ended with the fisherman alive and brought home instead of becoming a tragedy.
