Women Winning Big: Mariz Umali, EJ Gomez, and Glaiza de Castro Get Major Honors

Kapuso personalities Mariz Umali, EJ Gomez, and Glaiza de Castro were among the honorees at the 2026 Gawad Pilipino Babae Ka Awards, earning recognition for their work and contributions in their respective fields.

Reporter and anchor Mariz Umali said the award helps break old stereotypes by showing that women are just as capable as men in every kind of work. Her message was simple but strong: kung ano ang kayang gawin ng lalaki, kayang-kaya rin ng babae.

Fellow journalist EJ Gomez said the recognition also serves as a challenge for her to continue fulfilling her responsibilities as a faithful and honorable journalist. Both Gomez and Umali are part of GMA Integrated News, with Umali also serving as an anchor.

For actress Glaiza de Castro, the award was more than a trophy moment. She said it was a reminder to keep improving not only in acting but also in the advocacy work she supports and in the projects she chooses to take on.

The recognition comes as Glaiza continues appearing in “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre,” which airs on GMA Network on weeknights after “24 Oras.” The awards night highlighted women from media and entertainment whose work continues to make an impact on and off screen.
