Walang Pasok! Schools Go Online as Nationwide Transport Strike Hits Metro Manila
If you're a student or parent wondering about classes today, here's the deal: dozens of universities and schools across Metro Manila and nearby provinces shifted to online learning on Thursday, March 19, as a nationwide transport strike disrupted commuter routes.
The strike, organized by transport groups protesting the recent fuel price hikes and related policy issues, left streets noticeably emptier — but it also meant students had to scramble to adjust. Major universities including UP Manila, Ateneo de Manila, UST, De La Salle, and PUP all announced the shift to remote or synchronous online classes.
Some schools went further — UP Integrated School and De La Salle Araneta University moved all instruction online, with only selected laboratory classes remaining on-site. Provincial areas weren't spared either, with Laguna and parts of Albay also declaring shifts to modular or online learning for all levels, public and private.
The disruption comes at a particularly tough time, as the country grapples with soaring fuel prices driven by the ongoing Middle East conflict. Transport groups have been demanding government intervention, and with another round of price hikes expected next week, the pressure isn't letting up anytime soon.
