Walang Pasok Bukas: Ateneo, La Salle, UST, and Dozens More Schools Suspend Classes for EDSA People Power 40th Anniversary
Heads up, students — it's walang pasok tomorrow! Dozens of universities and schools across the country have announced class suspensions on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in observance of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Several local government units are also suspending work for the day.
The big names are all on the list: Ateneo de Manila declared a University Holiday, encouraging its community to join EDSA events. The De La Salle Philippines network suspended both classes and work for mobilization efforts. UST, University of the East, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Mapúa University, Adamson University, FEU, and many more followed suit.
February 25 was officially declared a special working day — meaning it's technically not a holiday. But that didn't stop schools from taking the initiative to give students and faculty time off to commemorate the historic event. Some schools specifically cited the importance of participating in anniversary activities and reflecting on the revolution's legacy.
The date holds deep significance: on February 25, 1986, millions of Filipinos gathered along EDSA to peacefully oust President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. — the father of current President Marcos Jr. — and install Corazon Aquino as president. It's one of the defining moments in Philippine history, and this year's anniversary comes amid heightened political tensions with the Trillion Peso March also planned.
Interestingly, there's also a push in Congress to make February 25 a regular holiday again — Akbayan lawmakers recently filed House Bill 7911 for exactly that. Marcos Jr. had previously moved the EDSA special non-working day to a different date in 2023, citing holiday economics. Whether he signs it into a permanent holiday remains to be seen. For now, enjoy the day off!
