Tindig Pilipinas Withdraws Its Own Impeachment Case Against VP Sara — Will Throw Full Support Behind the Third Complaint Instead
In a strategic move ahead of Monday's House Committee on Justice deliberations, civil society group Tindig Pilipinas announced it will withdraw the second impeachment complaint it filed against Vice President Sara Duterte. But don't read it as backing down — they're consolidating forces behind the third complaint filed by religious groups, priests, and lawyers.
'Consolidating our support behind the third complaint will strengthen our position and help move the case forward to the Senate impeachment court,' Tindig Pilipinas said in a statement on Sunday. The group noted that the third complaint contains the same grave allegations and substantial evidence as theirs.
The second complaint was filed on February 2 by Tindig Pilipinas convenor Kiko Aquino Dee, former presidential peace process adviser Ging Deles, and Father Flavie Villanueva, among others. It was endorsed by ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima and Akbayan Rep. Percy Cendaña. The charges included constitutional violations, graft and corruption, bribery, unexplained wealth, and tolerating extrajudicial killings.
The strategy makes sense politically: having multiple overlapping complaints could create procedural complications that delay the process. By consolidating behind one strong case, the impeachment proponents hope to present a unified front that's harder for the VP's allies to dismiss or dilute.
'Dapat nang managot si VP Sara sa pandarambong at pang-aabuso niya sa kapangyarihan sa lalong madaling panahon,' the group declared. The House Committee on Justice, chaired by Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro, begins formal deliberations on all four complaints starting Monday at 10 AM.
