Timbog sa Clark: P30.78-M Ketamine Tinago sa Cable Spool
Port of Clark ketamine seizure — rewritten from The Manila Times
Authorities at the Port of Clark intercepted a major drug shipment after discovering ketamine hidden inside a cable spool, according to The Manila Times. The seized haul weighed 6,156 grams and carried an estimated street value of P30.78 million.
The Bureau of Customs said the parcel had been declared as solar cables and had arrived from the Netherlands. The shipment was consigned to a recipient in Pasig City, but it was flagged early because of derogatory intelligence information provided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
That tip-off led to tighter inspection on arrival. A K-9 sweep reportedly tested positive for illegal drugs, prompting a full physical examination of the package. Inside the wooden cable spool, authorities found six plastic pouches containing a white crystalline substance hidden within the coiled wires.
A spectrometer test later confirmed that the substance was ketamine, which is classified as a dangerous drug under Republic Act 9165, as amended. Customs then issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention for violations tied to the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the country’s anti-drug laws.
Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said every intercepted shipment helps protect Filipino families, while District Collector Jairus Reyes noted that smugglers are getting more creative but enforcement teams are adjusting too. In short, malaking huli ito and another reminder that traffickers keep looking for new ways to slip drugs into the country.
