Public school teachers may soon stop facing the old story of retiring at the entry-level Teacher I rank, with Senator Win Gatchalian saying the promotion pipeline is finally opening wider.
The update comes as the Department of Education targets the promotion of 100,000 public school teachers and school heads this year. According to the report, the push follows the implementation of the Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act, or Republic Act No. 12288.
That law formally expands the career path inside the education system by creating more position levels, including Teacher IV to Teacher VII, Master Teacher V and VI, and School Principal V. In short, mas marami nang pwedeng akyatin na roles for educators who stay in service and keep advancing.
Gatchalian, who sponsored and co-authored the measure, said the broader ladder should help teachers grow and succeed in the profession. The law also requires DepEd to issue clearer promotion guidelines for teachers and school leaders so movement up the ranks will be easier to map out.
If fully carried out, the reform could change the long-term outlook for thousands of educators who have long complained about limited advancement despite years in the classroom.
