Health officials in Metro Manila are sounding the alarm after the Department of Health’s regional office said a total of 101,807 tuberculosis cases have been recorded across the National Capital Region. The figure came out just as the country prepares to mark World TB Day on March 24.

According to the report, the DOH-Metro Manila Center for Health Development said the number highlights why early screening matters. The agency wants more people to get tested early instead of waiting until symptoms get worse, kasi doon usually lumalala ang problema.

Regional Director Lester Tan said TB remains one of the country’s top illnesses, but stressed that it is curable when caught early. He also urged the public not to hide the disease out of fear or shame, warning that silence can make treatment delays even worse.

To push awareness, the agency also held a “TB-Free Generation Fun Run” in Taguig City. The event was meant to encourage residents to learn more about tuberculosis, get screened, and treat the disease as a public health issue instead of a stigma story.

For Metro Manila families, the message is pretty direct: if there are symptoms or possible exposure, magpa-check agad. With more than 100,000 cases already on record, the DOH is clearly trying to move the conversation from denial to early action.
