Tag-init Na: PAGASA Says Summer Mode Has Officially Begun
PAGASA has officially declared the start of the warm and dry season, meaning the northeast monsoon or amihan has already wrapped up. In short, summer mode na talaga, with generally fair weather expected in many parts of the country aside from isolated thunderstorms.
According to the weather bureau, the shift in wind direction from northeasterly to easterly—linked to a high-pressure area over the northwestern Pacific—signals the transition. PAGASA also noted that some areas in Northern Luzon may still feel occasional northeasterly winds even after the wider seasonal change.
Senior weather specialist Joseph Basconcillo said rainfall is expected to ease further in April, especially in extreme Northern Luzon. By May, more areas are likely to feel higher heat index levels, which means the real challenge will not just be hot temperatures but the “feels like” heat people experience outdoors.
PAGASA’s dry days outlook also points to longer stretches of little rain across Northern and Central Luzon, with provinces like Ilocos Norte and Apayao expected to log the most dry days. That could affect daily routines, water use, farming schedules, and how local governments prepare for heat-related problems.
For ordinary Filipinos, the message is simple: mas iinit pa in the coming weeks. Hydration, shade, and planning outdoor trips more carefully will matter a lot as the country moves deeper into the dry months.
