Survey Says: 64% ng Pinoy Gusto Nang i-Ban ang Political Dynasties
Nearly two-thirds of Filipino adults want Congress to finally pass a law banning political dynasties, according to the latest Pulse Asia nationwide survey released Friday, March 13. The 1st Quarter 2026 'Ulat ng Bayan' survey found that 64 percent of respondents support the legislation — a clear signal that Filipinos are fed up with family-run politics.
Support was strongest in the Visayas (73 percent), the rest of Luzon (74 percent), and Metro Manila (69 percent). Upper-to-middle class respondents (Class ABC) backed it at 70 percent, while the masa or Class D came in at 66 percent. Only 17 percent disagreed with the proposal, while 19 percent remained undecided.
Interesting lang — Mindanao was the outlier. Opinion there was divided, with only 32 percent agreeing, 39 percent disagreeing, and 29 percent undecided. Among the poorest respondents (Class E), the numbers were similarly split — 36 percent in favor versus 41 percent opposed.
Among those who support or remain undecided, a whopping 76 percent said the ban should cover both national and local positions — not just one level of government. About 69 percent want relatives barred from holding the same government post consecutively, and 70 percent want a ban on relatives simultaneously holding national and local seats.
The survey also found that 70 percent support limiting family members running in any election to just two — one for a national seat and one for a local post. The fieldwork was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults aged 18 and above, with a margin of error of ±2.8 percent. The message from the Filipino people is loud and clear: enough with the family affairs in government.
