Study Abroad, Pero Dito Sa Pinas: New Program Courts US Students
A new education initiative is pitching the Philippines as a study destination for American students, with a newly launched consortium opening the door to short-term courses, semester exchanges, and faculty-led programs. The program is called the Consortium for Study Abroad in the Philippines, or CSAP.
The launch was held on March 24 with Fulbright Philippines, CHED, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the US Embassy all taking part. According to The Manila Times, 15 Philippine higher education institutions are part of the founding batch, including Ateneo de Davao University, UP Los Baños, UP Visayas, and Silliman University.
US officials said the goal is to attract more American students by promoting Philippine campuses not just for academics but also for cultural immersion. That means the pitch is bigger than classroom learning — it is also about giving visitors a deeper feel for local communities, culture, and daily life.
CHED Chairman Shirley Agrupis said global education now depends on reliability, especially when it comes to comparable programs, transferable credits, and student support from admission hanggang completion. With Manila and Washington marking 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, the project is also being framed as another people-to-people bridge between the two countries.
