Runners, Ready Na Ba Kayo? Manila Shuts Down Roxas Boulevard and Major Roads for the Philippine Marathon Today
If you're planning to drive through Manila today — think again. The City of Manila has announced massive road closures for the Philippine Marathon on Sunday, February 22, affecting some of the capital's most heavily-trafficked thoroughfares. Roxas Boulevard, Bonifacio Drive, Jones Bridge, and over a dozen other roads will be closed starting 11 PM Saturday night.
The closures hit both the southbound and northbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard from P. Ocampo Street and Quirino Avenue all the way to Katigbak Drive. Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to Katigbak Drive is also shut down, along with P. Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, Ma. Orosa Street, Muralla Street, Sta. Lucia Street, and portions of A. Soriano Avenue and T.M. Kalaw Avenue.
The Manila Public Information Office laid out detailed rerouting measures for affected motorists. Vehicles from MacArthur and Quezon bridges heading southbound on Roxas Boulevard must take P. Burgos Avenue to Taft Avenue instead. Those on Kalaw Avenue bound for Roxas must turn left onto M.H. Del Pilar Street. Vehicles from Bonifacio Drive must make a U-turn at Anda Circle.
Trailer trucks and heavy vehicles from Pasay using Roxas Boulevard northbound must turn right onto Quirino Avenue, while those from Mel Lopez Boulevard must detour through Capulong Street to Yuseco Street and continue via Lacson Avenue on the old truck route. Light vehicles, meanwhile, may use the Roxas Boulevard service road.
The Manila PIO urged everyone to plan their trips ahead and use alternative routes. For the thousands of runners lacing up today, though — this is your moment. Enjoy the car-free streets of Manila! Good luck, runners! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
