Riding-in-Tandem Throws Acid at Motorcycle Couple in Cagayan de Oro — Victims Suffer Chemical Burns on Face and Body
A motorcycle rider and his female passenger were victims of a terrifying acid attack in Cagayan de Oro when a riding-in-tandem allegedly doused them with a chemical substance while overtaking their motorcycle.
In a report on '24 Oras' Thursday night, footage showed the male rider's jacket visibly smoking from the chemical, while the female passenger was covered with a towel. Both victims sustained chemical burns on parts of their faces and bodies — a horrifying scene that's raising alarm in the city.
According to the victims' account to police, the suspects on the other motorcycle were overtaking them when they suddenly threw the chemical substance. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigators are still trying to determine if the victims were specifically targeted or if it was a random act of violence.
Nakakagulat — the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office admitted they didn't even receive a direct report about the incident and only learned about it through social media monitoring. The Carmen police station has been directed to investigate, with the victims scheduled to formally report to their office.
In response, the police said mobile patrols have been deployed in several areas, especially at night, and barangay personnel have been urged to monitor their communities — particularly dark and isolated spots.
