The Philippine National Police reported a continued decline in crime statistics for January 2026, with focus crimes dropping 3.94% from the previous month — that's 106 fewer incidents nationwide, from 2,687 in December 2025 to 2,581 in January.

PNP Chief P/Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. attributed the improvement to the force's Focused Agenda and enhanced police operations. The numbers show drops across multiple categories: murder fell from 319 to 284 cases, physical injury from 427 to 299, rape from 516 to 400, and motorcycle carnapping from 162 to 149.

Police Regional Office 1 led the way with a 31.03% reduction in focus crimes — the biggest drop among all regions. The National Capital Region Police Office ranked highest in both crime reduction and case-solving performance. Overall, 14 out of the country's police regions contributed to the decline.

Case resolution numbers are also impressive: the national crime clearance efficiency reached 93.22%, with a solution efficiency of 70.24%. Murder cases had an 80.99% clearance rate, physical injury hit 95.99%, rape cases reached 94%, and theft posted 97.13%. Even cybercrime investigations recorded a 66.55% clearance rate.

'Mas mababa ang krimen at mas marami ang nalulutas na kaso,' Nartatez said. 'Patuloy nating palalakasin ang police presence at investigative efforts para masigurong may hustisya at kapanatagan ang bawat Pilipino.' Seven kidnapping cases were also solved, reflecting an 85.71% efficiency rate.
