The Philippine Ports Authority just had its best year ever — posting a record ₱30.09 billion in revenue for 2025, an 8.86% jump from the previous year's ₱27.64 billion. The agency's unaudited financials show a steady upward trajectory that's been building since 2016, when total revenues were just ₱14.32 billion.

The PPA Board of Directors declared a dividend of ₱5.33 billion — equivalent to 52% of net earnings and the largest dividend remittance in PPA history. Under the Dividends Law (RA 7656), government corporations must remit at least 50% of annual net income to the national government. The PPA went slightly above the minimum.

PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago attributed the revenue growth to several factors: sustained increases in vessel traffic and cargo throughput, higher storage revenues, stronger regulatory income following tariff adjustments, and favorable gains from dollar-denominated tariffs. Basically, everything went right.

The port authority's regulatory income alone climbed from ₱6.82 billion in 2016 to ₱15.68 billion in 2024 — more than doubling in eight years. That tracks with the expansion of maritime trade and the Philippines' growing role as a logistics hub in Southeast Asia.

Santiago emphasized that the revenue growth positions PPA to fund 'ongoing and upcoming port infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing trade facilitation, improving logistics efficiency and supporting tourism growth.' Translation: more money means better ports, which means faster shipping — something every Filipino consumer benefits from, kahit hindi nila alam.
