The Philippines is officially joining the first Eurovision Song Contest to be staged in Asia, giving local music fans a new international stage to watch this year. Organizers said the new regional edition will be held in Thailand in November, with the Philippines included in the first batch of participating countries.

According to the contest website cited in the report, ABS-CBN will handle the selection of the Philippine representative. That means the network will be in charge of choosing the act that will carry the country’s flag once the competition heads to Bangkok.

The organizers described the event as a major live spectacle built around national selection shows across Asia before a grand final in Bangkok. Aside from the Philippines, the initial lineup includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, South Korea, Vietnam, and host country Thailand.

Eurovision Song Contest director Martin Green said the launch is a meaningful step as the brand marks its 70th anniversary, adding that Asia brings a deep mix of culture, creativity, and talent to the format. He said the new edition will still aim to stay true to the contest’s core identity while letting Asian artists and audiences shape it in their own way.

For Philippine showbiz and music fans, this is a pretty big one. Hindi lang ito basta bagong TV event — it opens a fresh lane for Filipino performers to compete on a regional stage under a globally known brand, with ABS-CBN now holding the key role in picking who gets that shot.
