The Philippines and Japan are marking a bigger chapter in their relationship, with Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya saying the partnership between the two countries has reached a new height. Ang focus ngayon is both security and economic cooperation, hindi lang ceremonial diplomacy.

Speaking at a Stratbase Institute forum tied to the 70th year of diplomatic relations, Endo said Manila and Tokyo face similar challenges when it comes to maritime order. Because of that, he described deeper security cooperation as a natural necessity for both sides.

He also pointed to the economic side of the relationship, saying the two countries are close, complementary, and backed by hardworking people. In short, mas lumalalim ang practical partnership, from trade to strategic planning.

A notable update from the ambassador was the expansion of Japan's military representation in the Philippines. The Japanese Embassy now has three military attachés covering air, general, and ground self-defense forces, and Endo said he expects stronger participation from Japanese forces in exercises such as Balikatan.

The message from Tokyo was clear: both countries want to protect peace, support prosperity, and widen future opportunities together. As the 70-year diplomatic milestone is celebrated this March, the Philippines-Japan relationship looks more serious, more strategic, and more long-term than ever.
