The peso slid deeper on Friday and closed at a new record low of P60.55 against the US dollar, showing how intense market pressure has become. Hindi na ito simpleng bad day lang sa currency desk—this is now another historic mark for the local unit.

Based on The Manila Times report, the close was 32 centavos weaker than the previous session's P60.23:$1. It also moved past the earlier record low of P60.3:$1 that had been logged just days earlier, so sunod-sunod ang downside nitong week.

Trading opened at P60.333:$1 and moved within a range of P60.285:$1 to P60.57:$1 during the day. That tells us the peso stayed under pressure almost throughout the session, with the weakest point landing very near the final close.

Market activity was also heavier, with trading volume reaching 1.33594 billion from 1.1696 billion in the previous session. In plain terms, mas active ang galaw ng market habang humihina ang piso, which usually adds to the sense of urgency around the move.

For households and businesses, a weaker peso can mean pricier imports and added pressure on fuel, food, and other dollar-linked costs. While one trading day does not decide everything, this new low puts extra attention on inflation risks and the broader economic mood.
