Panalo at Pera: Alex Eala Banks P6.3M After Big Miami Open Push
Eala secures P6.3M for reaching Miami Open 4th round
Alex Eala has already locked in a major payday after reaching the fourth round of the Miami Open. The Filipino tennis star secured $105,720, roughly P6.36 million, after beating Poland’s Magda Linette in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(2), at the Hard Rock Stadium Grandstand Court.
The win sent Eala into the round of 16 and gave another boost to what is becoming a huge run on the WTA 1000 stage. After the match, Eala said patience was one of the biggest keys, noting that Linette had repeatedly put her in tough positions in their battles before.
Beyond the prize money, the result also helped her in the rankings race. The report said Eala collected 120 ranking points for reaching this stage and climbed from No. 48 to No. 44 in the live WTA rankings, raising her total to 1,255 points even if the official update will only come after the tournament ends.
There is still a lot more on the line. If Eala beats Czech player Karolina Muchova in the next round, her payout jumps to $193,645 or about P11.65 million. A deeper run would also help her recover more of the 390 points she earned from last year’s semifinal finish in Miami.
The next challenge, though, is no joke. Muchova is a former world No. 8 with two WTA titles, while Eala is trying to finally break through against Czech opponents after a string of losses. Malaking test ito, but the 20-year-old Filipina is clearly carrying momentum, confidence, and serious cash prize energy into the next match.
