Palace Says Imee Marcos Having No Presidential Security Has Nothing to Do With Her Rift With Brother Bongbong — But the PSC Chief's Answer Says It All
Malacañang wants everyone to know that Senator Imee Marcos having zero presidential security detail has absolutely nothing to do with her public rift with President Bongbong Marcos. "Wala pong kinalaman iyon," Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during Friday's press briefing, insisting that the President doesn't react negatively to his sister no matter what she says against him.
The revelation came after Presidential Security Command chief Rear Admiral Andro Val Abayon disclosed during a Commission on Appointments hearing that no PSC personnel are currently assigned to Senator Marcos. Interestingly, Abayon noted that their other sister, Irene, does have her own presidential security detail. So kung si Irene meron, si Imee wala — and we're supposed to believe it's just a coincidence?
Abayon said he discovered the gap when he assumed his position in November 2025 and promised to prepare security teams for the senator. "I will talk to the good senator for the preparation of her security," he told the panel.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson was blunt: it's the PSC's basic duty to ensure the safety of the President's siblings, and it's not up to Imee to decide if she needs protection. "Because if something happens to her, it's your responsibility," Lacson warned. Then Senator Jinggoy Estrada delivered the real question — what would Abayon do if the President himself blocks the security deployment?
Abayon's diplomatic reply? "I will cross the bridge when I get there." That non-answer might be the most telling detail of all. The Marcos siblings' family drama continues to play out on the national stage, with every side denying what everyone can see.
