Tag-Init Is Officially On: PAGASA Says Warm and Dry Season Has Begun
PAGASA has officially declared the start of the country’s warm and dry season, signaling the end of the cooler amihan period and the start of hotter days ahead across much of the Philippines.
In Rappler’s report, the weather bureau said the shift from northeasterly winds to easterly winds, driven by a high-pressure area over the northwestern Pacific, marks the transition into the new season. Some parts of Northern Luzon may still feel occasional amihan winds, but the broader seasonal shift is already in place.
That means the usual fair-weather pattern will likely dominate in the coming weeks, though isolated thunderstorms can still pop up. More importantly, heat index levels are expected to rise through May, which could make outdoor conditions feel much hotter than the thermometer reading.
PAGASA reminded the public to stay hydrated, limit long exposure under direct sunlight, and use umbrellas or other protection when going outside. Sa madaling sabi, summer mode na talaga, and the health reminders are not just optional.
With schools, commuters, workers, and families all likely to feel the heat more sharply, this early advisory matters. The dry season may be welcome for beach plans and travel, but it also means higher heat risk and the need for extra caution in the weeks ahead.
