Nic Chien Gets Real About His Breaking Point After Coming Out
Nic Chien opened up about one of the hardest chapters of his life, sharing that he went through a breakdown after coming out as a trans man. In his interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Nic said the struggle was not just about labels, but about feeling unseen in his own body.
He recalled telling his mother, Lea Salonga, in 2021 that he believed he was transgender. Nic said Lea initially responded with caution, telling him not to rush into labels because he was still young and could still be figuring things out.
Over time, Nic said his journey moved from identifying as non-binary and gender fluid to fully embracing a male identity. He described that process as something he could not permanently deny, saying he eventually had to come back to who he truly was.
The most painful part, he shared, came when he felt trapped between how he saw himself inside and what he saw in the mirror. Nic said he broke down and told his mother he could no longer keep waiting, which led to the decision to move forward with treatment and later top surgery.
That support became a turning point. Nic said Lea held him, listened, and agreed to help him move forward, including timing major decisions around his work and recovery. Medyo mabigat ang story, but it also landed as a very personal account of family support during a difficult transition.
