Mark the calendar: Malacañang has declared May 27, 2026 a regular holiday nationwide for Eid’l Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.

According to Philstar.com, the declaration was made through Proclamation 1264, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto by authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The holiday follows the recommendation of the Commission on Muslim Filipinos based on the 1447 Hijrah Islamic lunar calendar.

Eid’l Adha is one of the two major holidays in Islam, coming after Eid’l Fitr, and is observed every year on a movable date. Under Republic Act 9849, the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, is recognized as a national holiday for the observance.

The occasion honors Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and obedience to Allah, remembering the story in which he was prepared to sacrifice his son Ishmael before Allah provided a lamb instead. For Muslim communities, it is one of the most revered celebrations of the year.

The holiday also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the five pillars of Islam. For workers and families planning ahead, the key takeaway is simple: May 27 is a regular holiday across the Philippines. Source: Philstar.com
