Marcos Orders DFA and DMW to Secure All Filipinos in Iran and the Middle East ASAP
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Migrant Workers to immediately locate and ensure the safety of all Filipino citizens in Iran and across the Middle East following the massive US-Israel airstrikes on Saturday.
'We have received reports of airstrikes which hit Iran. We are in the process of getting more information,' Marcos posted on X Saturday evening. 'The safety of Filipino citizens in Iran and in the Middle East is paramount,' he stressed, directing the DFA and DMW to take immediate measures.
The directive came as explosions rocked Tehran and multiple countries in the region, including the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar — all home to significant Filipino worker populations. Neighboring countries urged residents to shelter in place as the conflict expanded rapidly.
The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv had earlier advised Filipinos to exercise extra caution and remain alert amid signals from Washington about possible strikes. The Philippine Embassy in Beirut likewise urged Filipinos to 'remain vigilant and exercise prudence at this time.'
There are hundreds of thousands of OFWs spread across Middle Eastern countries, many working as healthcare professionals, domestic workers, and in construction. The latest escalation has heightened fears of a wider regional conflict that could directly impact Filipino communities throughout the Gulf states.
