Marcos Flies to the US for 3-Day Diplomatic Mission — UN General Assembly and Women's Rights on the Agenda
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. boarded a plane on Sunday morning, March 8, bound for the United States for a three-day working visit packed with high-level diplomatic engagements at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The President is set to attend a special session of the UN General Assembly and the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, where the Philippines is expected to push its positions on gender equality, international cooperation, and — most critically — the ongoing humanitarian concerns in the Middle East.
Marcos is expected to call on parties involved in the Middle East conflict to return to the negotiating table and to uphold international law, with particular emphasis on the protection of civilians caught in the crossfire. It's a timely message given the thousands of OFWs still stranded in the region.
Malacañang said the trip presents a strategic opportunity for the Philippines to reinforce its diplomatic footprint at the UN and promote the country's peace initiatives on a global stage. The President's schedule includes bilateral meetings with key world leaders on the sidelines of the assembly.
Marcos is scheduled to return to the Philippines on March 11. The visit comes as the country grapples with the economic fallout from the Middle East crisis, including record fuel price hikes and massive OFW repatriation efforts.
