Mahal Na Lahat: LTFRB Approves Fare Hikes for Jeepneys, Buses, and Ride-Hailing Apps Nationwide
Brace yourselves, commuters — the LTFRB just greenlit fare increases across nearly all public utility vehicles in the country, and it's hitting everything from jeepneys to Grab rides.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza announced the decision on Tuesday, saying the board needed to balance the welfare of millions of commuters against the struggles of transport operators dealing with relentless oil price hikes fueled by Middle East tensions. "This decision is proof of the government's genuine concern for those in the transport sector," Mendoza said.
For traditional jeepneys, the minimum fare goes up by P1 — from P13 to P14 — with succeeding kilometers now at P2 instead of P1.80. Modern jeepneys get a P2 bump, going from P15 to P17. Meanwhile, ordinary Metro Manila buses jump from P13 to P15, while aircon buses leap from P15 to P18 for the first five kilometers.
Ride-hailing services aren't spared either. TNVS base fares are up P20 across the board — sedans now start at P65 (from P45), while hatchbacks go from P35 to P55. Airport taxi flag-down rates surge from P75 to P115. Overall, the adjustments represent a roughly 19 percent increase in fares across all regions.
The LTFRB says the computation was backed by thorough data analysis, pero for ordinary Filipinos who rely on public transport daily, the math is simple — pamasahe just got heavier. Regular taxis and UV Express are still under deliberation, so expect more fare news soon.
