Starting Monday, March 30, several of the country’s biggest mall operators will shorten operating hours as part of the response to the national energy emergency. The move covers more than 190 malls nationwide, according to Rappler’s report.

SM Supermalls said most of its malls will shift to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, while weekend schedules will generally remain longer. Robinsons Malls, Ayala Land malls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Filinvest Malls, and the Araneta City malls also announced adjusted hours, though some schedules will vary by location.

The common goal is simple: reduce demand on the national grid without fully shutting down commercial activity. Mall operators said the tweak supports power conservation efforts while allowing them to keep serving shoppers, tenants, and restaurant customers during a tense period for the country’s energy supply.

Some chains also told the public to double-check their official social media pages because specific closing times may differ per branch. Megaworld also adjusted cinema schedules in some sites, while Filinvest separately posted the updated hours for its individual malls.

Bottom line, hindi ito simpleng retail update lang. When the country’s largest mall groups start trimming hours at the same time, it shows how seriously the power situation is being felt across everyday business operations.
