Motorists, rejoice — the MMDA has officially suspended the expanded number coding scheme on Friday, March 20, 2026, in observance of Eid'l Fitr. That means all vehicles are free to hit the road without worrying about coding restrictions.

President Marcos earlier proclaimed March 20 as a regular holiday nationwide to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The Bangsamoro Darul Ifta announced that the official moon sighting for Eid al-Fitr would take place on March 19, led by Bangsamoro Mufti Sheikh Abdulrauf A. Guialani, who makes the formal pronouncement on whether Ramadan has concluded.

The MMDA reminded everyone that number coding is automatically suspended during official and special non-working holidays — so this isn't a special exception, it's standard protocol. Still, it's a welcome break for drivers already stressed by the ongoing fuel price crisis.

With the long weekend ahead, the MMDA is urging motorists to plan their trips carefully. Expect heavier traffic in the days leading up to the holiday, especially around provincial bus terminals and major thoroughfares. Road safety measures should be observed at all times, besh.

Whether you're heading home to the province or just enjoying the extra day off, Eid Mubarak to all our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrating! Drive safe, everyone.
