Long Weekend Alert: March 20 Holiday na Para sa Eid'l Fitr — Here's What Workers Need to Know
Good news para sa lahat ng empleyado — President Bongbong Marcos just declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid'l Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. That means another long weekend is coming up, mga ka-tropang Pinoy!
The announcement was made during the Grand Iftar celebration at Malacañang, where Marcos joined Muslim community leaders from across the country. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the declaration, extending greetings to the Filipino Muslim community as they prepare to celebrate with family and friends.
Eid'l Fitr is one of the most important celebrations in Islam, marking the conclusion of Ramadan — a month devoted to prayer, reflection, and fasting. Filipino Muslims typically celebrate by attending communal prayers, visiting loved ones, wearing new clothes, and hosting festive gatherings.
For workers, the DOLE guidelines are pretty straightforward: if you don't work on the holiday, you still get 100% of your daily wage (as long as you showed up or were on paid leave the day before). If you DO work, expect 200% pay for the first eight hours, plus 30% extra for overtime. If it falls on your rest day too, the premium goes even higher.
The holiday is a recognition of the Philippines' diverse religious heritage and the significant Muslim population, particularly in Mindanao. Whether you're celebrating Eid or just enjoying the long weekend, make the most of it!
