Long Weekend Alert: March 20 Declared Regular Holiday for Eid'l Fitr — Buong Bansa Walang Pasok
Good news for workers and students: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially declared Friday, March 20, 2026, a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid'l Fitr, the Feast of Ramadan. The proclamation means the entire country gets a long weekend, with the holiday falling on a Friday.
Proclamation No. 1189, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on March 12, states that the holiday declaration aims to "bring the religious significance" of the occasion to all Filipinos and to honor the Muslim community's observance of the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Marcos himself announced the holiday during a gathering with members of the Muslim community, where he joined Filipino Muslims in celebrating the end of Ramadan. Under the law, Eid'l Fitr is one of the national holidays recognized by Republic Act No. 9849, which declared both Eid'l Fitr and Eid'l Adha as regular holidays.
Para sa mga empleyado na papasok pa rin on March 20, good news din — kasi regular holiday siya, entitled kayo sa 200% ng daily rate niyo under Philippine labor law. For those in retail and essential services na walang choice kundi magtrabaho, at least double pay ang consolation.
The long weekend comes at a welcome time for many Filipinos who are feeling the pinch of rising fuel and commodity prices. Whether you plan to rest at home, travel, or spend time with family, the extra day off is a much-needed breather. Eid Mubarak to our Muslim brothers and sisters!
