Liza Soberano and Grammy winner H.E.R are proudly repping Filipino culture in DreamWorks’ upcoming animated movie "Forgotten Island," a project both stars say feels deeply personal. The film is inspired by Philippine culture and is set to bring local stories, imagery, and family themes to a global audience.

In an interview aired on "24 Oras," Liza said joining a project that is uniquely Filipino has long been one of her dreams. She said she wants the movie to represent the Philippines accurately on a global scale while still carrying universal themes that audiences everywhere can connect with.

H.E.R said she is proud to be Filipino and Black, and highlighted how special it is that the film draws from folklore and childhood memories. She and Liza both pointed out the movie’s 1990s feel and the use of familiar Filipino visuals like jeepneys, neighborhood streets, and everyday local scenes that often get erased in more polished productions.

For Liza, her character Raissa hits close to home because the story touches on separation and longing tied to the OFW experience. H.E.R, who voices Jo, said the film also puts family, food, traditions, and even karaoke front and center — things that are very Pinoy but still relatable and warm for international viewers.

The cast is stacked with Filipino talent, including Lea Salonga, Dolly De Leon, Manny Jacinto, and Jo Koy, alongside Jenny Slate and Ronny Chieng. "Forgotten Island" is set for theatrical release on September 23, and if the first trailer is any sign, this one could be a big cultural flex for the Philippines, no joke.
