DreamWorks Animation has released the first full trailer for 'Forgotten Island,' a fantasy film inspired by Filipino culture and folklore, with Liza Soberano and Filipino-American singer H.E.R. leading the story. The movie follows childhood best friends Raissa and Jo as their bond gets tested by change, distance, and a surreal island where memories begin to disappear.

Philstar.com said the trailer opens with the two girls meeting outside the principal’s office while dressed as a manananggal, then flashes through years of friendship built around local myths and playful chaos. One of the emotional turning points comes when Jo begs Raissa not to leave for studies in the United States, setting up the tension before the fantasy adventure fully kicks in.

The trailer then sends them through a portal shaped like the eight-ray sun on the Philippine flag and into the island of Nakali. There, they run into creatures drawn from Philippine mythology, including a sarimanok, the weredog Raww voiced by Dave Franco, and a feared manananggal voiced by Lea Salonga.

The voice cast also includes Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Manny Jacinto, Amielynn Abellera, Jenny Slate, and Ronny Chieng. The film is directed by Joel Crawford and Filipino-American filmmaker Januel Mercado, with music by Filipino-American composer Nathan Matthew David — so the project looks deeply loaded with Pinoy talent kahit international ang scale.

'Forgotten Island' is set to open in Philippine cinemas on September 23. If the trailer is any clue, this one is aiming for both heart and spectacle, mixing friendship drama with a very Pinoy brand of mythic weirdness.
