Several Metro Manila local government units are joining this year’s Earth Hour observance, with residents being urged to switch off non-essential lights on Saturday night as part of the global climate campaign. The symbolic lights-off is scheduled for exactly 8:30 p.m.

The main Earth Hour Philippines event, organized with WWF-Philippines, will happen at Arcovia City in Pasig. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the program is expected to build up to the one-hour switch-off that has become the movement’s signature gesture worldwide.

Pasig City called on people to participate either by showing up at the Arcovia event or by doing the lights-off from home, offices, or public spaces. Simple move lang siya on paper, but city officials said the bigger point is collective action — mas may dating kapag sabay-sabay ginagawa.

WWF-Philippines also said the Pasig event will feature performances from local artists including Lola Amour, Clara Benin, and The Ridleys before the switch-off. Pasay City, meanwhile, is also taking part, with Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano urging residents to be more conscious of their role in protecting the environment.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 and has since grown into a worldwide movement. It will not solve the climate crisis by itself, obviously, but organizers say it remains a visible reminder that people are still willing to act together for the planet — and that message still hits.
