Pasig City is adding five new electric minibuses to its Libreng Sakay program, with operations set to start on Monday, April 6. The city is positioning the move as a practical transport boost for commuters while fuel prices remain a pain point.
Mayor Vico Sotto said each unit cost P3,989,600 and will be used by Pasig Transport to test routes that are either underserved or seen as having strong commuter demand. The goal, he said, is to check if these routes are workable and if enough passengers will actually use them.
The city government said four routes will open from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, with SPED on Caruncho Avenue serving as the common jump-off point. From there, the e-buses will connect commuters to the Temporary Pasig City Hall, Ligaya in Santolan, One San Miguel Avenue in San Antonio, and Nagpayong in Pinagbuhatan.
Route 1 will run as a point-to-point trip between SPED and the Temporary Pasig City Hall. Routes 2, 3, and 4 will use designated pick-up and drop-off stops, with more route details expected in a separate advisory from the city.
Pasig said the buses assigned to Routes 2 to 4 will only run during rush hours, from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The city explained that the limited schedule is meant to help commuters without heavily disrupting existing PUV operators — so yes, may tulong sa pasahero, but with a balancing act for current transport players too.
