The De La Salle Lady Spikers kept their unbeaten run alive with a thrilling 25-14, 25-15, 26-24 sweep of the UST Golden Tigresses in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

It looked like a straightforward demolition through the first two sets, but UST had other plans in the third. With La Salle leading 19-14, the Golden Tigresses mounted a furious 8-3 run to tie the game at 22-all. Angge Poyos and Xyza Gula powered the comeback, with Gula even pushing UST to set point at 24-22.

But captain Shevana Laput refused to let her team lose. She denied Gula twice to claw back to 25-24, then sealed the match with a clutch drop shot that sent the 15,222-strong crowd into a frenzy. Laput finished with a game-high 21 points on 17 attacks and four blocks, including 10 points in that intense third set alone.

Angel Canino added 13 markers while the Lady Spikers dominated the stat sheet — 39-33 in spiking, 11-5 in blocking, and just 12 total errors. ‘Talagang kailangan nilang maghirap talaga,’ said assistant coach Noel Orcullo, acknowledging UST’s gritty fight back.

La Salle improves to 2-0, joining NU and UP at the top of the standings. Next up: a huge showdown against UP on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Para sa mga volleyball fans — that’s a game you don’t want to miss!
