PAGASA made it official on Monday: La Niña is done. The weather bureau announced that climate conditions in the tropical Pacific have returned to neutral, ending the La Niña episode that started back in late 2025.

According to PAGASA, the Oceanic Niño Index now indicates ENSO-neutral conditions, which basically means neither El Niño nor La Niña is running the show. Sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific are hovering around normal levels, so we're not looking at any extreme weather pattern driving conditions for now.

The agency first raised a La Niña Alert back in September 2025, and by December, the phenomenon was confirmed — though it remained weak throughout. PAGASA had projected it would stick around until the first quarter of 2026, and that's exactly what happened.

But before anyone relaxes too much, PAGASA is reminding everyone that ENSO-neutral doesn't mean zero risk. Other weather systems can still dump heavy rain on the country, and flash floods plus landslides remain a threat in vulnerable areas. Model forecasts suggest we'll stay in neutral territory all the way through the June–August 2026 period.

Bottom line: the La Niña chapter is closed, but PAGASA says stay alert pa rin. Weather doesn't care about labels — kahit neutral na ang ENSO, the agency will keep monitoring and issuing updates as needed.
