Queen of C-Pop JOLIN is giving fans a peek at how her collaboration with SB19 on “Emoji” came together, and the whole story started with a little uncertainty. ABS-CBN Entertainment reported that JOLIN described working with the P-pop group online as feeling like a “blind date” at first.
“Emoji” is one of the six new songs on SB19’s sophomore album Wakas at Simula, which also pulls together tracks from the group’s earlier trilogy releases. JOLIN said the collaboration clicked when both sides realized they shared the same idea: people often hide complicated feelings behind quick symbols, short replies, and curated online reactions.
According to her post, the first meeting led to words like “emoji,” “social,” and “fake,” with everyone quickly connecting over how modern communication can compress real emotions into something easier to show on screen. From there, the concept of the song grew into a cross-cultural creative match rather than just a one-off collab.
JOLIN also said she felt genuine warmth from the group during production and gave special thanks to Ken for frequently sending her supportive messages and reactions. She ended her note by cheering SB19 on as they push their new album and upcoming tour.
The report added that SB19 has already dropped the official music video for “Emoji,” set in a colorful metaverse-style world where emotions show up through symbols and avatars. Aside from JOLIN, the album also features a collaboration with Japanese group BE:FIRST, while SB19 member Stell said these global projects are part of the group’s bigger goal: to bring Filipino music farther abroad.
