Jessica Soho Named PeopleAsia's Person of the Year 2026 — 40 Years of Journalism and Still Going Strong
The Philippines' most-awarded broadcast journalist just added another trophy to her already stacked collection. Jessica Soho has been named one of PeopleAsia Magazine's "People of the Year 2026" awardees, recognized for four decades of groundbreaking work in Philippine media.
The award honors individuals who serve as "beacons of hope" — people who inspire the public to choose moral courage over the easy path. For Soho, the recognition is both an honor and a source of pressure. "Salamat! But it's also humbling kasi this adds more pressure sa trabaho to keep doing the best that you can," she said in an interview with Balitanghali.
But true to form, Soho didn't dwell on the accolades. She pivoted straight to what matters — the work that still needs to be done. "Marami pa tayong dapat ibunyag siguro at naghihintay pa rin ang taumbayan ng mga sagot sa napakaraming mga tanong nila," she said, adding that people are getting angrier about corruption while life gets harder.
Soho also had a message for fellow journalists: content is still the battleground. "Importante pa rin, ang laban pa rin ay sa content, pagalingan pa rin ng content," she emphasized, reminding everyone to hold on to the values taught in journalism school and newsrooms — accuracy, truth, and verified information.
Jessica Soho was one of 13 honorees at the awards night. She continues to host Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS), one of the longest-running and highest-rated news magazines in the country. After 40 years in the business, she's still as sharp and relevant as ever. That's the real award.
