Jay R Brings a Dark Music Drama Home With 'Songs for Selina'
Jay R is bringing his music-themed drama film 'Songs for Selina' to local cinemas, with its Philippine theatrical run starting March 18. The movie had already secured a North American release through Amazon Prime US and Tubi before getting its local rollout.
GMA Entertainment reported that the film is produced by Jay R under Homeworkz Entertainment and will be shown exclusively in Ayala Cinemas through Black Cap Pictures. Jay R described the project as a dream he refused to quit on, saying he finally got to produce his own film after pushing the vision all the way to the screen.
The story is positioned as a grounded but intense look at the darker side of the music industry. Jay R said the material draws from lived experiences, stories from fellow artists, and truths that people in the industry often avoid talking about, especially when power is uneven and speaking up can come with risks.
The film stars Mica Javier and Rachel Coates as Selina and Maya, with Rachel Alejandro, Audie Gemora, Nicole Laurel, Leanne Mamonong, Gian Magdangal, and Jay R also part of the cast. Jay R also co-wrote and produced the original soundtrack, which includes solo and duet performances by the two lead stars.
For local viewers, the release turns the project from an overseas streaming title into a homegrown big-screen moment. If the movie delivers on that promise, this could be more than a musical drama—it could be Jay R’s pinaka-personal creative flex yet.
