The Middle East crisis just escalated to a terrifying new level. Iranian drones struck the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, leaving smoke damage on the walls and roof of the diplomatic compound. Saudi police swarmed the diplomatic quarter, checking IDs and blocking several roads, including approaches to the embassy.

This came just four days after US and Israeli strikes killed Iran's supreme leader and triggered the regional war that's now engulfing the entire Gulf. Iran hit back hard, launching retaliatory strikes at industrial and diplomatic targets across the Middle East. Powerful explosions also rocked Tehran overnight as fighter jets flew over the Iranian capital and US President Donald Trump threatened further escalation.

The US State Department issued an urgent all-caps warning on Monday: "Americans to DEPART NOW" from all countries and territories in the Middle East "due to serious safety risks." Meanwhile, Israel announced it was seizing new forward positions inside southern Lebanon after Hezbollah fired missiles in support of Iran, provoking a massive Israeli bombardment.

Back home in Manila, multisectoral groups gathered outside the US Embassy to condemn what they called "continued bombing and wars of aggression" by the United States. Protesters demanded an end to military intervention, citing the destruction of communities, civilian casualties, human rights violations, and an economic crisis now being felt even in the Philippines.

The conflict is hitting Filipinos hard — with over 1,400 OFWs seeking repatriation, airports across the region closed, fuel prices surging for the 10th straight week, and economists warning of inflation risks. What started as a preemptive strike has become a full-blown regional war, and there's no ceasefire in sight.
