Init, Ingat: Metro Manila and Maguindanao Hit With Dangerous Heat Warning
Residents in Metro Manila and Maguindanao were told to take extra care on Saturday after PAGASA warned that temperatures in both areas could reach dangerous levels. The weather bureau said Metro Manila may see 33 to 36 degrees Celsius, while Cotabato City in Maguindanao could hit 40 degrees.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriendin De la Cruz-Galicia said those heat levels can trigger heat cramps or heat exhaustion. In short, this is not the kind of init you just brush off, especially for commuters, outdoor workers, and anyone staying under direct sun for long periods.
The agency advised the public to avoid activities that could lead to heat stroke. That means cutting back on heavy outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and taking shade seriously if you need to be outside.
Even with the high temperatures, PAGASA said Metro Manila and much of the country may still experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Several areas in Mindanao and the Visayas were also forecast to get scattered rains because of the easterlies.
So yes, puwedeng sobrang init but still wet later in the day. For people heading out this weekend, the safest move is to prepare for both: protect yourself from the heat, but keep an eye on possible rain and thunderstorms too.
