Init Alert Ulit: Metro Manila May Feel Like 37°C as Fair Skies Stay Put
PAGASA said the country would continue to see generally fair weather on Tuesday, with Metro Manila expected to hit a 37°C heat index. That level falls under the extreme caution category, meaning the heat can already take a real toll on people spending too much time outdoors.
Weather specialist Veronica Torres said the agency was not monitoring any low-pressure area forming either inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility. Instead, the ridge or extension of a high-pressure area has been stretching over northern Luzon, helping keep conditions sunny and warm.
Even with the mostly clear setup, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country could still get partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather activity. So yes, maaraw mostly, but random ulan is still very much on the table.
The highest heat index for the day was forecast in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 41°C, also under extreme caution. PAGASA warned that heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, and that long exposure to direct sun can even lead to heat stroke.
The agency reminded the public that heat index is the ‘feels like’ temperature, combining actual air temperature with humidity. In practical terms, this means the day may feel harsher than the thermometer suggests, so hydration, shade, and timing outdoor trips smartly are a must.
