Holy Week Couch Mode: GMA Rolls Out ‘Firefly’ and a Big Family Watchlist
GMA Network and Firefly
GMA is leaning into Holy Week viewing with a lineup built around reflection, family time, and familiar titles, with the Philippine free TV premiere of Firefly serving as one of the biggest highlights. The network said it wants to give viewers a mix of meaningful films, documentaries, and special programs during the long break.
The programming starts on Maundy Thursday, April 2, with a packed schedule that includes faith-centered and entertainment titles like Jesus, Forrest Gump, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, The Ten Commandments, Reporter’s Notebook, and I-Witness. It is clearly a broad mix, not just puro solemn content, which makes the lineup more family-friendly for different age groups.
On Good Friday, the network shifts into another set of inspirational and child-friendly offerings, including The Story of Jesus for Children, Lassie, Family of Two: A Mother and Son Story, I Love Lizzy, and more public affairs and religious specials. The schedule is designed to balance quiet reflection with lighter titles that families can watch together at home.
Black Saturday brings the spotlight to Firefly, which will air on free television for the first time. Joining it are titles such as Magdalena, Ang Buhay ni Hesus, Sister Act, Family History, and more news and documentary programs, giving viewers another full day of mixed but thematic programming.
By Easter Sunday, GMA returns to regular entertainment with shows like Born to be Wild, All-Out Sundays, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, and Bubble Gang. The overall pitch is simple: if many Filipinos are staying in this Holy Week, GMA wants to own that living-room time with a lineup that feels both comforting and sulit panoorin.
