If you drive through Quezon City, time to plan your alternate routes. The QC government announced that roads around the EDSA People Power Monument will be closed starting Monday night, February 24, in preparation for the massive "Trillion Peso March 3" rally on February 25 — the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.

Here's the timeline: a zipper lane will be enforced along White Plains Avenue between EDSA and Katipunan Avenue from 9 PM on February 24 until 6 AM the next day to manage early arrivals. Then starting 6 AM on February 25, White Plains Avenue will be fully closed to traffic as civil society groups led by Caritas Philippines gather for the main rally at 8 AM.

Expect heavy congestion along EDSA, Katipunan Avenue, Ortigas Avenue, and Temple Drive. The Quezon City Police District (QCPD), MMDA, and city traffic units will all be deployed to manage the crowd and traffic around the monument area.

The QC Traffic and Transport Management Department is advising everyone to use alternative routes and plan their trips ahead of time. Kung kaya mong mag-work from home on Tuesday, that might be the move — the traffic buildup near the monument is expected to be intense.

The Trillion Peso March, now on its third iteration, has become one of the largest anti-corruption mobilizations in recent Philippine history. Combined with the EDSA anniversary, February 25 is shaping up to be one of the biggest protest gatherings Metro Manila has seen in years. Buckle up, or better yet — take the MRT.
