Government offices across the Philippines are shifting to a half-day work-from-home setup for Holy Wednesday, giving employees remote work hours from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. before office operations are suspended for the rest of the day. Malacañang, through Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, announced the adjustment on Tuesday.

The move is tied to the annual Holy Week travel rush, when many Filipinos head back to their provinces or join religious activities. In short, the government is making space for that familiar exodus instead of forcing full-day office attendance habang dagsa ang biyahe at observances.

The schedule also lines up with the coming holidays: Maundy Thursday on April 2 and Good Friday on April 3 are regular holidays, while Black Saturday on April 4 has been declared a special non-working day. That means a long break is effectively in place for a big part of the public sector.

PNA’s report also noted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will spend part of Holy Week in Ilocos Norte before returning to Manila by the weekend. So while the state keeps basic announcements flowing, the overall tone from government is clear: this is a period for reflection, travel, and limited official activity.

For workers and the public, the practical takeaway is simple: expect shorter government office availability on Holy Wednesday and plan transactions early. Kung may aasikasuhin sa gobyerno, better not mag-last minute because by noon, offices are already expected to pause.
