A scary scene unfolded at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Good Friday after part of the ceiling in the arrival extension area suddenly collapsed. The debris fell onto a section with waiting chairs, turning a busy travel morning into a quick emergency situation.

INQUIRER.net reported that rental agent Johnmark Florendo, who witnessed the incident, said he saw about seven people hurt, including a senior citizen. He said the victims had been seated across from the area where the ceiling gave way when the collapse happened.

New NAIA Infra Corp. later confirmed that seven individuals were injured at around 10:43 a.m. General Manager Lito Alvarez said those affected were given immediate medical attention and were all in stable condition, which at least is the good news amid the gulo.

Airport operator NNIC said the area was quickly cordoned off and its engineering team inspected nearby sections. According to the company, the surrounding area was declared safe for normal operations even as authorities continued to assess what triggered the collapse.

The Department of Transportation has already ordered the Manila International Airport Authority and NNIC to coordinate on an investigation and submit a detailed report. For travelers, operations at Terminal 1 were said to remain normal, but the incident again puts airport maintenance and passenger safety under the spotlight.
