Ginalingan Nila! Filipinas Crush Uzbekistan 2-0, Punch Ticket to 2027 Women's World Cup
The Philippine women's national football team just pulled off one of the biggest wins in their history — and they're headed to Brazil for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The Filipinas dominated Uzbekistan in their Women's Asian Cup playoff match on Thursday, March 19, winning 2-0 with goals from Angela Beard and Jaclyn Sawicki. Beard opened the scoring in the 47th minute, and Sawicki sealed the deal just minutes later with a powerful header. It was clinical, decisive, and absolutely deserved.
Under Australian coach Mark Torcaso, the team has been on a remarkable run that includes their gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games. This World Cup qualification marks their second appearance on football's grandest stage — their debut was at the 2023 World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Filipinas now join Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, and North Korea as confirmed Asian qualifiers for the tournament in Brazil, which runs from June 24 to July 25, 2027. The 10th edition of the Women's World Cup will be played across eight cities, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Brasília.
Sobrang proud moment for Philippine football. From underdogs to World Cup regulars — the Filipinas are showing the world that Pinay power is real. 🇵🇭⚽
