Brace yourselves, motorists — fuel prices are going up again. Starting Tuesday, February 24, gasoline went up by ₱0.60 per liter while diesel and kerosene both jumped by ₱1.20 per liter. That makes it seven consecutive weeks of gasoline increases and a brutal nine straight weeks for diesel and kerosene.

Major oil companies including Caltex, Shell, Petron, Seaoil, Flying V, Cleanfuel, Petro Gazz, PTT Philippines, and Unioil all implemented the same price adjustments. Most took effect at 6 AM, except Cleanfuel which hiked at 4:01 PM. The uniformity across all retailers tells you everything — this isn't one company being greedy, it's global oil markets hitting everyone.

Year-to-date, the cumulative damage is stacking up: gasoline is up ₱2.40 per liter, diesel has climbed ₱5.40 per liter, and kerosene has risen ₱3.80 per liter since the start of 2026. For jeepney and tricycle drivers who rely on diesel, that's a significant hit to their already thin margins.

The Department of Energy's Oil Industry Management Bureau had earlier projected mixed movements this week, citing a combination of geopolitical tensions, supply expectations, inventory movements, and market sentiment. Translation: Middle East and Eastern Europe conflicts are still rattling global energy markets, and Filipinos are paying the price at the pump.

Last week's hike was even steeper — gasoline went up ₱1.20 while diesel rose ₱0.60. At this rate, commuters and drivers are praying for some relief soon. Hanggang kelan ba 'to? That's the question everyone's asking.
